Learning some freedom

Caveman video’s starting point was a colourful ski vest. The installation, built in one day, was documented with photography and video. The material was then compiled into an animation.

I realised a series of quick installations, each made in approximately one day and constructed in a white room measuring 8-square meters. The starting point varied anywhere from an object to a natural element and to a news image.

Room and corridor build for the installation, mixed media
I built a room in the gallery space. The room hid an artwork made out of an abundance of material. Although the work was large, it was physically unattainable; it kept itself hidden. The installation could only be seen through a reflection. The body of the work, its physical parameters, took a substantial amount of space, but for the viewer the work was only shown as a 130 cm wide image in a mirror. The starting points for the work were three pairings: Material vs. immateriality, improvisation vs. decisiveness and form, and large-scale vs. restricted point of view.
